    Pappad-Making

Lathika and Nalini, both residents of Mangalam Kunnu at Srikrishnapuram Panchayat in Palakkad district, are living examples of two families where women stepped into the forefront to support their families with some additional income.
The group, CPY-51, has been formed in April 2006 at Mangalam Kunnu with ten active members. Being a member of the group, after three months Lathika applied for a loan of Rs 3000 to restart her pappad-making work.

    B.Industries

Since the fundamental principle of Shalom Trust is to lend a helping hand to the needy poor to set up their own activities, Shalom sanctioned a loan of Rs.5000 to R B Industries floated by K.P. Ramakrishnan for his immediate requirements. According to Ramakrishnan, “ even though a small amount, Shalom’s financial aid acted as a catalyst to stabilise the unit, and look into the future with renewed confidence.”
  Production of Utensils

Ramachandran, aged 44, inherited the work of manufacturing traditional lamps from his father when he was 15 years old. His wife, Kamalam is a member of Shalom’s SHG at Pathiripala, PLA-1. She is also actively involved in the manufacturing activities and co-shoulder the responsibility to bring the products on time.
Shalom’s timely financial assistance has helped them to enhance the production. With the financial assistance from Shalom, they could expand their activities to allied products. According to Kamalam, “Micro finance institutions like Shalom should come forward with adequate financial assistance to the small scale industries like us.” Let us examine the case of Kamalam and Ramachandran.
