Operationally Shalom follows the Self Help Group (SHG) and Joint Liability Group (JLG) Models. SHG is a group formed by a group of 10-15 members from the same locality, who are ready to work for the benefits of the members irrespective of cast, creed, gender or political affiliations.
Members from families belonging to the lower income group, very poor, having no saving habit but having the capacity for the repayment even though it is a very small amount, are selected to form SHGs. The members elect president and secretary among themselves for a period of one year. The group will have weekly meetings, discussions and collect their weekly remittance.
Shalom field staff right from the Community Volunteers to the Branch Managers, minutely scrutinize the genuineness of the applications and the whereabouts of the applicants. On the basis of their study and recommendations, loans are sanctioned.
